instead of uber or lyft you could you know support your local taxi drivers most of whom are immigrants themselves and spent their hard earned money to get a legitimate license and insurance for their jobs instead of these monopolizing “car-sharing” monster companies that are operating under sketchy loopholes and jeopardizing the lives of their drivers and passengers b/c no legal regulation or protection

Honestly I never even understood the rise of Lyft and uber because taxis freaking exist and they do the same damn thing
Because taxis are expensive and Uber and Lyft are a Godsend. In Austin awhile ago, a taxi trip to a place costed I think 16 bucks, while the rideshare costed 8. These rideshare drivers don’t abide by the same regulations as taxis and so the business flourishes because there isn’t much to weigh them down.
It’s not really about supporting taxi drivers and more about supporting free market options.
person 1: hey i have a car but no money
person 2: hey i have money but no car, can i pay you for a ride?
